What is Collar Free?

 

Collar Free is an online retail and design community where independent artists submit design ideas to print on fashionable t-shirts.  These ideas go into a competition based voting system where users determine which designs will go into production.  Once produced, designers are paid royalties on each sale of their unique design.

 

What are we looking for?

 

Currently, we are looking for graphic designers who want to design fashionable trendy t-shirts.  The type of shirts you see in a boutique selling for $40-100 (but they'll sell here for far less).  No text tees, trashy slogans, or cartoons.

 

How many colors can I design with?

 

The designs should be 1-8 colors and only on the front of the shirt.  Designs must be exclusive to our site and will be rejected at anytime if found elsewhere.

 

Does it matter where we work or live?

 

There are no geographic restrictions or time requirements. We will accept designs on an ongoing basis and there is no minimum or maximum amount of required submissions.  So designers can live and work anywhere.

 

What do we get paid?

 

Designers are independent contractors. Designers will be paid a $1-2 royalty for every shirt that sells for every design Collar Free chooses to produce. The royalty is uncapped and is only limited by consumer demand. The royalty structured increases as you submit and sell more t-shirts. Once you are at the top level you cannot go backwards.

  

How are we paid our royalties?

 

Designers are paid via Paypal. You will need to set up a Paypal and you will need to give us your account email. Royalties are paid monthly.
If a designer exceeds $500 in royalties in one year, they will need to fill out a W-9 to receive future payments.

 

Do I need to be 18?

 

No, Collar Free does not require that Designers be of a certain age.  You will be earning royalties for your design if you win a competition though, so you may have to have your parents set you up with a PayPal account.

 

How do I submit a design?

 

Click on "Submit Design" on the top of the screen and follow the instructions. You will need to download the template, design your shirt, then upload a print-ready and a web-ready file. Then we will approve the shirt and it will be entered into the voting system.

 

How do you determine what goes to print?

 

We don't, the community does. Each design battles against other designs and the designs with the highest win percentage are selected for print.

 

When will a winning shirt go to print?

 

Once you submit your design it will be approved within 24 hours and then be entered into battle against other designs for a period of no longer than one month. Each month the community will select the winning designs for print. Once a design is selected for print, it takes about 7-10 days to print and make available for sale. We will notify you when your design is selected for print and when your design is ready for sale. We'll also send you a few free tees of your own design so that you can help promote.

What are the shirts made out of?

 

Our shirts are a made from 55% cotton fibers blended by magic with a 45% mix of poly fibers.  This blend ensures a super soft tee, that won't shrink like a regular cotton tee. They are fashion fitted tees, don't need to be ironed, don't wrinkle, and look great.

 

What if I need to return a shirt?

 

For all of our customers, we offer 1 free return. We understand sometimes sizing is different and you may need to adjust so just send us an email at returns@collarfree.com and we'll send you a pre-paid mailing receipt. Please re-use your bag we sent you. The label we send you can be taped on and it prevents more waste in our environment. If you need to return a shirt a second time, please mail it to 3611 30th St, San Diego, CA 92104 with your invoice  and let us know how we can improve. We will issue a credit to your credit card as soon as we receive it.
